Interviews 30at239 writes: "
- Age: 25

 - Location: Tarragona, but currently living/working in Castellon province.

 - When and how did you start on the radio?:
I started in 1988, when I was 9 years old.
I knew about this hobby through a friend of
my father, and we bought a President Taylor.
1 year later my father bought me a Super Star
3900 and I used it
for more than 5 years, with a Sirio 2012.

- Working conditions?:
After the Super Star 3900 I got a President Lincoln, and 2 or 3 years later
I bought my current equipment, the Kenwood TS50.
The antenna system had always been a vertical antenna, Sirio 2012, President
GPF and Sirio 827...but two years ago I changed it to a 4 element monoband
home made yagi beam.

Do you have any project for the future to improve
your radio station?

I think any operator wishes to improve his working conditions,
but I particularly prefer spending my money travelling around
the world rather than buying a new HF radio.
Maybe in the future I will change my mind and buy a new
bigger transceiver, but not yet.

 - How is your location for dxing?
Tarragona is located on the Mediterranean coast, and my
QTH is one of the highest points of the city.
I can't complain at all about my location, as my reception
has always been pretty good compared to other local stations.

 - What country would you like to be active from?:
Many...activating an entity for first time on the 11m. band
was always my target, and last summer I could finally make
my dream come true.
So in the future, I hope to put on the air many other new
ones which are always in my mind...

 - How do you see CB radio actually?
There are less operators than in the past, but there is also
less QRM, and those who are still interested in radio have
the real passion for this hobby.

 - Do you think Internet has been an advance for radio?
Yes of course. Thanks to internet all the operators are
informed DAILY about the activations. In the past, there
wasn't such information and, even though it was more exciting,
we could miss a rare country or activity.
It has also contributed to know who-is-who through the
forums, and we can keep in touch
at any time.

 - What´s your opinion about radio groups on 11?
Nowadays the biggest groups have become a bussiness.
A real bussiness. And many new smaller groups pretend to
be the same. This is not good at all.
In order to advertise theirselves they use to make stupid
activations or contests, which are useless (in my opinion)
for the band.
Besides, these groups are very greedy and they want to
recruit as many members as possible.
Members are not treaten like persons, but like simple
"numbers". They are only important they pay their annual
renewal...but the groups DO NOT CARE at all about their
individual OPINIONS.
Unfortunately I have realized that many of those "numbers"
do not care how they are treaten by their groups...
they don't really care on how to  improve the band.

In a way, the true old radio spirit is lost...and it has been
modified by the groups to another kind of fake $pirit.
However, as I always say, this is a hobby and anybody is
free to enjoy it the way he wants.

 - You´re a well known expeditioneer...Have you had
any experience (good or bad) that could be mentioned
here?

Well, I obviously had many experiences. Some were better
than others...
Going to an expedition is like making a dream/project come
true.
You only want to enjoy it as much as you can, and in case
there is any bad experience during the trip you easily forget it.
Probably the worst moment of my life was the 9-11, when the
Twin Towers collapsed.
That tragedy made me and my friend George 184 cancel our
so-planned expedition to Saint Paul island. (284AT-0).
We hope to make a zero one day together.

 - Do you remember any special contact or event on the radio?

Every time I work a new prefix is special to me. Also, there
were so many unforgettable moments while I was in the Pacific
and worked some good friends from those remote islands.

Another interesting moment was the only day I experienced
Aurora conditions from my QTH in Tarragona (Spain) and spoke
to some Scandinavian/Central European stations.
Aurora conditions are really very unlikely in Spain, so
that definitely was such an unforgettable moment.
And last, but not least!, the meetings are always a very
special moment.
I strongly recomend everybody to attend one some time.

 - Any advice for newcomers to the radio?
Yes, be always P A T I E N T and P O L I T E.
These are the keys on this hobby.

 - Do you have another hobbies?
I like sports. I used to play rugby but now I only have time to go out jogging.
I like watching football and motorcycling on TV.
Also listening to music and of course TRAVELLING.

Great Interview. I consider 30DX401 one of the bravest and real dx-peditioners of our time. So talented with multi-language and intelligence. Christian is well suited and has a real passion for life and the environment such that I think all that he met would like to help him in his way. The pacific tour was a true triumph to 11m. I may not be a friend of Christian, but respect him well and always enjoyed our contacts.
