Looking for info on Hy-Gain model 410 "long jon". It is a 5 element 11m yagi with a 28 foot boom. Has anyone ever used one of these? I picked one up tonite that is still new in the box. I opened one end and pulled out some newspaper packing and the paper was dated 1975. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
It must be the well known 105CA from Hy-Gain. You got a review of this antenna on this web under the REVIEWS section (left side), if I remember correctly.
I´ve been using one of those yagis here for the last 15 years on 11 meters with very good results. Mine was one of the lastest made in the HyGain factory at Lincoln (Nebraska). Bought it new as as stock from a store for about 200 euros. It´s a very good antenna with very good performance and roughed construction. Built for last decades. 15 years up in the tower and no problems so far (balun change appart). Still working ok and 1:1.2 all over the band. The only complaint is that it´s a little complicated to assemble for a newbie. The specifications are accorded to what Henry wrote (hi mate). You should made some changes on the element lengths and also on the beta match to get the best of it in our band. You got the manual on the hygain website. One of the advantage of this antenna is that you can play with several lenghts and meassures to get more bandwidth or more f/b ratio or whatever...
My opinion is that you have made a great purchase. Don´t forget to install a wire or something to keep the boom as horizontal as possible (boom trust - boom support) as it´s not included with the antenna (but it´s highly recommendable). I recommend to buy the BN-86 balun as well if it is not included (it was on mine). If you have any question as well as some photos of the antenna installed just drop me an email. 73s and HNY everyone!
