Hi Dxhunterers:
For my new antenna installation next year, an due to space problems I'm thought in buying the MA5B by cushcraft.
What do you think about this antenna, do you recommend it?
maybe you know a better one??
All replies will be much apreciated. _________________ Juan -Webmaster- "ONE PERSON, ONE CALLSIGN"

Juan,
If you don´t have enough space for a bigger yagi this antenna could be the perfect solution. You can have 5 bands that seems to work beyond expectations for a mini beam. A little bit better (even 1 or 2 S units acording to what users say) than a dipole at same height or a vertical at ground level. Easy to turn with a TV rotor and could be set up on a mast perfectly (10 meters or 30ft would be ok for this antenna).
I haven´t use that antenna (sorry for what I told you on cluster as I think you were asking me about MA5V wich is the one I have) but reading reviews on eham users say it works pretty well and SWR is as advertised on manual (easy to tune).
Only complaints are regarding some problem with missing parts inside the boxes that have been solved by Cuschraft but after phone calls or emails so you should be careful to check that all tubes, clamps, screws or parts haven been correctly shipped and if not you will have to help yourself to ask for the missing ones.
You got another similar antenna to this but designed by Butternut on this link:
http://www.bencher.com/hf5b.html
Anyway, this Butternut antenna seems to be a step behind the one made by Cuschraft. Take a look here:
http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/1319
Hope this help and good luck with your election. 73s

Have a look at 30AT196 antenna an you'll see how the MA5B looks like installed.
I've found very cheap prices, only 340 $ = 257€.
Let's hope the $ mantain its value for the next year. _________________ Juan -Webmaster- "ONE PERSON, ONE CALLSIGN"

257 euros + shipping + charges...Let´s say close to 350 euros...almost half of the price in Spain. Acording to what experts say, we should expect for similar euro/dolar rates till the end of this year...will see. Another question Juan....are you planning to use that antenna on 11????...73s

Yes Fernando, in fact, most of the time will be transmiting in 11 mts.
I have a 4 elem. monoband for 11 mts. but I don't want to intall both antennas, I don't want to have problems with my neighbours.
You can see my antenna in the

Well you can´t compare MA5B with a monoband antenna, Juan. Your 4 elemts monoband will be always much better than a multiband shorted yagi (talking about 11). If I were you I would try to set up both antennas over the same tower. Installing 4 elements just 2 meters behind the Cuschraft wouldn´t cause much interaction among them. Putting up a medium size rotor could turn all the system without many problems and this won´t be a big installation under neighbour´s eyes. Appart of all this I´m not sure about antenna performance on a band where it has been no designed for....Have you asked Tony 196 about his experience with MA5B on 11???...would be good to know. 73s

I know Fernando, but I prefer to intall only one antenna, two antennas would be too development for the neighbourgs eyes.
I can tell that Tony was one of the few spanish stations who could work 281SD. It works fine. _________________ Juan -Webmaster- "ONE PERSON, ONE CALLSIGN"
