Very interesting, Chris. So if sunspot number are relatively high....why I´m unable to hear anything???....geomatnetic storms perhaps?...tell us, boy... 73s!

well the sunspot number is not high at the moment. The current value is SSN=51 while on the top of a cycle it can be over 150 or so.
The more sunspots there are the more activity (or potential activity) there is. Also the Solar Flux Index (SFI) is in accordance to sunspots number.
The thing is that, at the present time, there is ONE (only 1 !!!) very big sunspot. And this sunspot 798 has been producing many flares during the last week. One of these flare was between the TOP 5 of the last 14 years!
Whenever there is a solar flare, the propagation disappears as soon as it impacts Earth because the Geomagnetic Fields get charged of protons coming from the sun. This is when auroras happen...and propa via aurora as well!
Well, it is long to explain and a bit difficult because everything is linked...
I don´t know if I have explained myself clearly...at least I tried! haha.
