I anticipate doing some traveling in the next week or so and want to take my rig with me. I am looking for some help from other ops that have taken an antenna to a hotel. What kind of antenna did you use, special permission from hotel, the performance, installation, etc. Any and all help would be appreciated. I know prop isn't great but I would feel lost without my rig for a week hihi.
some hints if you go somewhere on holiday and want to make a little radio activity.
Try to find a resort with bungalows, or a place with low lodges and gardens. There you can easily set up any aerial. Even without asking for permission. In some places they may ask you about it, but generally it's not a problem.
If the hotel is a building it is particularly difficult. The only way I find is to set up either a balcony antenna or a mobile antenna. However reception may be bad, you may do TVI, or just get high QRM from the building devices like alarms, lights, generators, etc..
If you want to set up a bigger antenna you definitely need to ask for permission. In many hotels guests aren't allowed to reach the roof, so it makes it double trouble. But you may be lucky also and get permission and even help to set up anything you want. It always depends on the hotel staff!
